2016 Camp Enterprise was a huge success!  The Rotary Club of Edina Morningside was heavily engaged in the planning and execution of the Camp this year.   Thanks to Peter Kelly (2016 Chair) and the 20 EMRC members who volunteered as planners, speakers, mentors, venture capitalists, essay readers, operations managers and game show hosts!

Another wildly successful Rotary Camp Enterprise was held October 27 – 29, 2016, at YMCA Camp Ihduhapi in Loretto, Minnesota, with 99 students in attendance. A collaborative project between the Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Morningside Rotary Club, in partnership with Rotary Clubs from through Districts 5950 and 5960, Rotary Camp Enterprise is a 3-day intensive business and leadership camp for high school juniors and seniors from throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin which introduces students to business planning and the free enterprise system. At camp, students are assigned to 1 of 15 teams, along with a Rotarian mentor and college-aged counselor studying in a business-related field. Each team is then assigned a case study and tasked with developing a new product concept and business plan to present to a panel of venture capitalists for potential investment. Students also participate in leadership and team-building activities and have the opportunity to hear from several business specialists and 5 keynote speakers. At the conclusion of camp, 5 individual students were awarded $1,000 scholarships for post-secondary education. In the past 15 years, Rotary Camp Enterprise has awarded approximately $75,000 in scholarships.

The total budget for Rotary Camp Enterprise is approximately $40,000 with the cost of each student’s attendance fully-funded through the generosity of local Rotary Clubs. This year, 57 separate Rotary Clubs sponsored students, making Rotary Camp Enterprise a truly district-wide effect across Districts 5950 and 5960. In addition, nearly 100 individual Rotarians volunteered their time and expertise to make Rotary Camp Enterprise possible, filling various roles such as mentors, business specialists, venture capitalists, and essay readers.

The dates of next year’s Rotary Camp Enterprise will be November 4 – 6, 2017. For more information, please go to: www.campenterprise.org
