On the Fourth of July, a thunderstorm at 8:00 a.m., and the rain that followed, did not stop Carolyn Jackson from handing out flags to families along the route before the annual parade began. It did not hamper Dr. Afira Hasan from distributing candy and flags after the event was underway. Nor, did it prevent Doug McElrath from weaving his baby blue Corvette down 50th Street. Mary and Ralph Brindle, Eda Rivers, and Tom Gump did their parts in organizing the event and moving the many groups forward. People lined the street, cheering and waving. As always, it was a wonderful way to begin the holiday and to celebrate our country's birth
