During well visits to pediatric clinics, Reach Out and Read volunteers talk with parents about the benefits of reading aloud to their young children beginning at birth. They show parents how to hold books to best engage their children and how to interact with the text and images to help them follow along. They share advice for talking about stories with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Families are given a free book and leave inspired to make reading with their young one a daily habit.
Books are needed for children ages 1-5. Books in Spanish, Somali, and Karen are especially needed and can be purchased locally at Wild Rumpus bookstore in Linden Hills, or on-line at https://starbrightbooks.com
Books will be collected at every January meeting. Let’s show Governor Jewelie that EMRC always rises to a challenge!
