THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO PACKED MATTER BOXES AT MATTER!
Thank you to Afira Hasan and the Community Service Committee, and Jeremy Newhouse, for organizing this great service project. In the first photo, you see "thank you" baskets being assembled for the COVID-19 nursing staff at Methodist Hospital. The other two photos are of the Matter box assembly. Matter boxes contain healthy snacks and are distributed by first responders, emergency rooms and food shelves.
Afira Hasan and the Community Service Committee presented Thank You Baskets to Methodist Hospital front line workers (clockwise) in the Doctor's Lounge, Heart Clinic and Surgery Center. Thank you to the EMRC team for making these beautiful baskets all tied up with Rotary ribbon!
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee will hold its first meeting, a book discussion, on Monday, February 22, at 5:00 p.m. We will discuss the book's Introduction and Chapter 1: Definitions.
EMRC is part of the community-based discussion around Racial Equity and Justice hosted by the Edina Community Foundation. On behalf of our club, Andrea Humphrey and Mary Brindle are participating in community conversations led by the foundation.
The EMRC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee will present a series discussions, sharing fellowship and learning about the challenges we encounter when learning about race equity and justice. We will use resources from "Creating a Better Story," the three-part series hosted by Rotary District 5950 to help deepen our understanding of the concept of unconscious bias and how it plays a role in the context of our society. The topic of racial inequity and injustice is a difficult topic of discussion. We will also use a book discussion format to focus our conversations and our learning.
John Pastor, Doctor of Pharmacology for M Health Fairview, is responsible for the vaccine rollout to M Health Fairview and all their affiliated hospitals, clinics and senior residences. Periodically, John will update us on Fairview's progress and the overall progress within the state of Minnesota. Dates, times and Zoom links for these updates will appear here and will be announced at club meetings and in the club newsletter.
Edina Morningside Rotary Club is among several area Rotary clubs that will work with the Excelsior Morning Rotary Club on the Lake Street Council Project, to help rebuild businesses damaged in summer 2020’s civil unrest after George Floyd’s death.
EMRC members John Sorteberg and Bob Schriver are leading our club's effort in this important project. Edina Morningside Rotary Club has been paired with Sol Travel, a business that was affected by the unrest last summer.
John is President of Commercial Furniture Services and leads a roundtable discussion with other small business owners, a forum in which small business owners learn from each other. Bob is retired after being President of Coverall of the Twin Cities and is a member of S.C.O.R.E. Senior Core of Retired Executives, a small non-profit that pairs retired executives with small business owners to help give them the necessary resources and guidance they need.
We look forward to getting to know Lake Street business owners and working with them. Watch for more information about how to get involved. Many shops are open, including Midtown Global Market and Mercado Central. Consider shopping Lake Street for your groceries and gifts.

All we ask is that you come ready to engage.

From Steve May- As Rotarians you can be proud of the major role we have played in this effort. It has been argued that without Rotary many places in the world would still have polio. It was probably 10 years ago the Wall Street Journal said every Rotarian deserved a Nobel Prize for all the money we have put toward this effort. Your support of Rotary projects will help us get the job done.
